PD Release

The opportunity to apply for teaching release for half a teaching session to pursue personal PD goals is offered to seniority list instructors at the ELI. Full-time instructors are eligible for an 8-week full-time PD release or a 16-week part-time release and part-time instructors are eligible for an 8-week part-time PD release.

Approval of PD teaching release is determined by the applicant adequately demonstrating a plan of action to achieve professional goals, the length of time since the instructor’s last individual PD release, and by seniority. The value of the applicant’s proposed activities to the ELI and the general UBC academic community as a whole may also be weighed as a supplementary consideration.

Release Time is 8 weeks full-time or 16 weeks part-time between January and June. Applications must be submitted by March 31, of the year preceding the release.
The number of PD teaching releases available is determined by the number of FTEs in a particular session during the year preceding the application deadline.
For PD release in January 2019; Application deadline is March 31, 2018; FTEs for a particular session in 2017 will determine the number of PD releases available for 2019.
